The Iredell County Agricultural Fair is nearing the end of its run this year and, for the most part, local residents are giving it high marks.
“It’s good for the area and good for the town,” said Sid Bayard, owner of Papa’s Pizza, which is just down Main Street from the Iredell County Fairgrounds.
Bayard said he sees a slight boost in business during the fair week but not enough to get too excited about.

Some might see them as the early ingredients of a bacon burger; lazy and unmotivated meat machines. But those of the porcine and bovine persuasion have a competitive side to them.

Dale Ostwalt says just about anything you have under or above your kitchen sink can help your tomatoes grow juicier, your string beans grow longer and just about anything else in your garden grow fatter.
“I put ammonia, syrup, a can of Coke and a can of beer in the ground when I plant them,” Ostwalt said, as he lugged samples of wares with his green thumbprint on them into one of the exhibition halls at the Iredell Fairgrounds on Sunday afternoon.

Smokey Mountain Amusements will provide rides throughout the week. Unlimited rides are $15 per person on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, as well as Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Rides are open from 5 p.m. to midnight, and beginning at noon on Saturday.

The fair will open at 5 p.m. on Sept. 3, and will continue through Sept. 8.
Gates will open for admission of visitors from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day of the fair. Doors of the exhibition hall to open at 5 p.m. All doors and gates will be closed to visitors at 11 p.m.
